About Nike
Track coach Bill Bowerman and his athlete Phil Knight started Nike in 1964 in Oregon, USA. Back then, the brand was called Blue Ribbon Sports and the duo sold running shoes out of Knight’s car at track meets. After a name change to Nike in 1971, the Swoosh took the world of athletic footwear by storm. Nike running shoes took centre stage, and the company set itself apart with its headlining Nike Air cushioning. Using pockets of pressurized air inside a durable film, Nike Air is designed to provide responsive support while on-foot. Impacts are reduced, while the bubbles of air maximize energy return and comfort. This light-as-air feeling can be experienced throughout many of Nike’s shoes — from the Air Force 1 to the Air Max 270 — and has carved a path for countless performance-driven innovations to this day.
