Glitz, Glam & Juicy Couture

The Juicy Couture tracksuit debuted for the first time in 2001, and it’s now making a big comeback in the 2020s. Whether you love it, hate it, or just aren’t too sure about it yet, let’s be completely honest. It was iconic back then and it’s iconic now.

Defined by glitzy rhinestone detailing and soft velour that’s utterly luxurious, the Juicy tracksuit didn’t just keep the wearer comfy and feeling fabulous — it helped shape the tracksuit as it would exist in future generations and as we know it today.

So we’re thrilled to be elevating our lineup with Juicy’s LA glam. Discover the iconic brand online now at JD Sports Canada, and keep reading to get an in-depth look at its rise to stardom and the Hollywood stars that helped pave the way.

The LA Lifestyle

At the helm of Juicy Couture were founders Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor.

Self-described as an "LA Lifestyle brand infused with casual glamour and an irreverent attitude," Juicy Couture has always embraced its LA roots. The brand originated from Skaist-Levy and Nash-Taylor's desire to create athleisure wear that was both fun and glamorous, setting it apart from the typical workout-oriented sweatpants and sweatshirts of the time.

Knowing there wasn’t a brand out there that could deliver the elevated leisurewear they wanted, the two founders decided to take matters into their own hands. Bringing us right back to what makes the Juicy tracksuit so iconic to this day: the perfect fit plus the right amount of glam and sportiness. Together, this winning combination pushed Juicy Couture to the forefront of athleisure in the early 2000s.

The iconic velour tracksuit itself, in combination with the range of handbags, accessories, and swimwear that would follow brought the casual luxury of California and LA to the rest of the world. You could be living in the dead of winter with no beaches in sight, but a bright and colourful, sparkly Juicy tracksuit can still provide you with the glitz and glamour of the West Coast.

Celebs, They’re Just Like Us

At the same time, the rise of celebrity tabloid culture brought airport fashion, pap walks, and off-duty style to new attention. Capturing moments for the camera that could shape a Hollywood starlet’s public image, for better or for worse.

And Juicy was right there in the thick of it. Lindsay Lohan wore her tracksuit with flip flops and a skinny scarf, Paris Hilton and Kim K were also rocking their tracksuits too, and Britney Spears was just one more entry in the star-studded list of celebrities who got into the look in the early aughts.

But celebrities weren’t rocking athleisure for the sake of paparazzi pics only, they were making career moments out of them (think JLO’s “I’m Real” music video) and doubly wearing them in everyday moments of life. You too, can look fabulous like your favourite celebrity while grocery shopping or walking the pooch. It wasn’t just glitz and glamour, it was attainable — from your next-door neighbour to the red carpet.
