In the 1980s, no one knew what Air Max technology was: the Nike Air Max showed them. Taking inspiration from Paris’ Centre Pompidou building which was designed to look like it was built inside out, Tinker Hatfield cut away some of the Nike Air Max’s midsole to expose the Air unit cushioning inside. With the springy cushioning on display, the Nike Air Max went on to become one of Nike’s most iconic designs. Now, more than thirty years later, the Air Max has been the blueprint for the Air Max 90, the Air Max 270, and more – all in a variety of different colours and in sizes from PS to 13.
